11 Ways to Collaborate

11 Ways to Collaborate

11 Ways to collaborate as opposed to competing.

There are benefits with having a collaborative attitude rather than a competitive one.

In this edition of the VBH Mini-Zine we will be thinking all about collaboration: what it is, and how to do it well!

Does collaborating with others really help?

Yes! Of course!

Apart from it being a great way to get more clients, it is:

  • Inspirational: seeing others in action shows new and different ways to do things
  • Educational: learning from people with different areas of expertise than you.

Think: What’s something you’ve learnt from someone else recently?

What have been your ‘AHA’ moments, and how have they added value to your business?

What are ways to collaborate?

You’ll be speaking to people immediately so therefore building a rapport immediately

  • Join a Mastermind: Solve problems: two heads are better than one.

Collaborating helps you to see a quandary in a different light.

Another ‘AHA!’ moment.

Implement: Use this as your prompt and take the next step: make contact with another business owner.

Does collaboration cost a lot of money?

Not at all! In fact quite the opposite!

  • Working correctly it’s a win-win opportunity for both parties.
  • Collaborations are a cost saving factor when performed correctly because costs are generally shared with the other business.

Think: Where or how could you save $ through collaboration?

Implement: Write a list of where you could save money when collaborating.

What can I do if I’m stuck in a rut?

Sometimes as business owners we can get stuck in a rut as we tend to do things the same way.

Here are some considerations to find out who would suit you to collaborate with.

  • Research. Find out where your people are and attend the key events that they go to.
  • Set yourself expectations. Everyone has different needs so make sure you both have at least 2 of the same desired outcomes
  • Be open about everything.

Here you’ll meet new people as well as find ways to move forward.

Who or what businesses inspire you?

Implement: Take the next step and list what it is they do and apply those ideas in your business.

What are some examples of win-win collaboration?

All it takes is a little creativity and everyone can benefit from a collaboration.

  • A café displaying flowers from a local florist, advertising the florist and providing visual aesthetics to the café.
  • A mobile hairdresser and a makeup artist sharing a booth at a trade show, both getting trade show exposure for half the price (and forming a good working relationship in the process).

Think: What do you think would make a good, win-win collaboration for your business?

Information and recommendations

This website (ByDonnaArnold.com) also has a wealth of information and recommendations.

I have found that over the years, there are unfortunately, people who’ll take advantage of others who are less experienced and knowledgeable, and it has always been a ‘thing’ of mine, as far back as I can remember to pass on any valuable information for all of us to share.

What’s the benefit in holding on to it?

Working online has shown me that this is more important than ever before.

You will find a link or links to pages and sites that I believe will help you and importantly, from my experiences, the people are integral which is a quality that I feel strongly about.

Courses and training

I have completed and not quite completed a multitude of worthwhile courses and training, read, and sometimes not finished books as well as worked with a wide variety of skilled and reputable people. All of which I would love to share.
